Writer's Block: Sarah Palin?
I'm clueless as to what they are thinking (besides, of course the inevitable and painfully obvious feint at the Hillary supporters).
The only thing this does is to take the experience question (and by extension the "chickenhawk" issue -- Biden, McCain and Palin all have sons serving, or about to deploy to the Mideast) off of the table.
Pawn for pawn (though some would suggest it's more like knight for knight, but just bear with me on my chess metaphors).
The real point comes with the debates (which is when I'll make my final decision on who to vote for, despite my traditional leanings) -- and unless someone knows something more that they're not letting on, it looks like Biden will wipe the floor with Palin.
I'm someone who the Republican Party should truly be trying to woo with this choice and everything else there -- I'm a undecided man who has voted with confidence for Republicans in the past. But at this point, I just plain don't see anything with substance here.
Palin has been governor for less than 18 months -- certainly not enough time to have any significant executive experience (though they keep touting her "experience"); she was mayor of a town with less people than the unincorporated town that I live in. In her time in the governor's office, she has managed to drum up a controversy (Troopergate) with which she has felt it necessary to hire a lawyer.
Her speech last Friday was weak at best; she's really got to show some chops tomorrow night at the RNC, otherwise, they'll lose even more ground in an incredibly competitive race.
I promised I'd wait until the debates before making a final decision on who I would support and vote for, but this doesn't instill much confidence for me. Not one bit.
